Moving Madness: Part III—so what happened?

The conclusion -sort of

How did she work without all our modern appliances?
After our horrid night of moving hotels at 2 a.m., we returned to the smoking townhouse. Two electricians, and a progress energy crew later, we learned that progress energy screwed up badly!
When the technician installed the meter they failed to ground the wires. Then the electricity was turned on and there was no regulation; too much voltage surged through the house. Thank God we were there very shortly after the power was turned on because they could have burned the whole house down.
This is the kind of thing you just can’t make up. They are the power company! How do you forget to ground a wire?

The Damages

Every kitchen appliance is fried! We have no refrigerator, stove/oven, overhead microwave, dishwasher or trash compactor, which by the way, were mostly brand new and still had tags on them! All the light fixtures in the kitchen are burned out, four ceiling fans, two vanity lights in the bathrooms, exhaust fans, a few switches and outlets, AND the HVAC Unit! We were a bit worried about the HVAC system and even looked for places similar to Https://greenhorizon.com/air-conditioning/ac-repair/ in case we needed to repair it.
To make it worse the weather is crazy here! Last week it was 90 degrees and with no A/C unit we were sweating. Today, it is 45 degrees and we are freezing our butts off. Repairs to our HVAC unit are a top priority at the moment in this weather.
Yes, I have put in a claim with the power company. They said it would take up to five business days for an examiner to contact us. Although we have spoken to someone, we are still waiting for paperwork to arrive. They are not going to be fast about reimbursing us either. In the meantime, no kitchen facilities, no heat or air even if we used Bouldenbrothers.com/boulden-heating-air-conditioning-near-me/ to find someone to fix the HVAC system, many rooms have no lights, and I am still waiting for repair people to show up to give me estimates to pass on to the power company.
So after all the rest of the ridiculousness of this move, we are still sitting here half-unpacked (because I don’t feel like looking at it anymore), with half the rooms without lights, and no kitchen facilities.
Interestingly enough I have become very calm about this whole situation. I suspect this is the calm before the storm.

  1. All that sounds so stressful I would have been having anxiety and blowing up at everyone.

  2. im going to suspect you could push harder again and get speedier service. THEY screwed this up SO BADLY, and cost you how many nights stay in a hotel?!? id be asking for a lot more than reimbursement in the house… :(:(

sounds too terrible to be true.

    • I wish it was too terrible to be true! I always say that the crap that happens to me you just can’t make up. It is too rediculous to be fiction, no one would ever believe it if it happened in a fictional novel! But it happens to me…all the time it seems too.

On a happier note, the power company “supposedly” cut a check yesterday for the appliances to be inspected, and to pay for the electrician to come in and fix the lighting fixtures. So we will see how long it takes to get to me. They are also going to pay for food (eating out) for every day that I have no kitchen so now they are eager to settle it quickly. Everyday costs them more money! That may like a fire under them.

  3. isnt that crazy how we can be so calm at first?

I know exactly what you mean. eventually it hits the fan doesnt it ;(
