Tantrum Tot Broke Daddy’s Heart

The Tot has been particularly miserably this weekend. His behavior and the situation at home in deteriorating at a rapid pace; it’s alarming.

He seems to be continuously unhappy, which is killing me! What Mom wants to see her baby miserable? Well, except maybe mine, but that is a story for another time.

As soon as he gets upset he has a complete screaming, head banging, throwing, hitting, and now pinching and biting tantrum. Well, I think it is beginning as a tantrum (when he wants something), and turning into a uncontrolled meltdown that cannot be stopped. Not even when you give
him what he wants! He loses complete control of himself. At this point there is no stopping it, and it is a matter of trying to ignore him balanced with keeping him and everyone else safe.

Problem is, among other things, he goes from zero to sixty in 3.2 seconds. From beautiful sweet smiling 2 year old, to holy shit who is this kid?

Yesterday, Hubby took him to Toys R Us with the little man who needed a utility belt for his Batman costume. The Tot found this Thomas the train bike! He LOVES Thomas.

Ever since he saw people riding in the bike lanes last week in NYC, he’s been asking for a bike. He points to them, finds me pictures, and even found a video online in an advertisement on the side if the screen. This kid really wants a bike!

I figured, great, I’ll get it for Christmas. Well after a particularly rough evening last night where he screamed for two hours non stop, and I mean without a break, Hubby decided to take him in the car for ride hoping to put him to sleep.

Once he said, “get in the car we are going for a ride,” the Tot began sobbing asking for this Thomas bike until he finally fell asleep.

When hubby went to take him to daycare this morning, first thing out if the Tot’s mouth was, “Daddy, I want a bike; the choo choo bike Daddy.” Full descriptive sentence!!!

Daddy had me go out and get him the bike today, which he is outside riding right now. (And Aspie Teen is running behind him)

  1. Oh yes…been there done that. I gave in to Stevie lots just because he asked correctly or he never really did ask for much so when he did go nuts over something I went nuts buying him stuff. It never ends…this past Christmas he asked for a $300 set of legos and it was all he asked for…Don’t you know he got them! He’s getting a tablet this year so he can watch Doctor Who whenever, whereever….he’s almost killed the Kindle he got last year.

  2. I LOVE that you got him the bike now, and didn’t wait till Christmas! Maybe for Christmas you get him a laminated photo of him riding on the bike. My autistic brother loved looking at pictures of his favorite things. He would look at a picture book my mom made for him for hours on end.
