Trudging through NYC; Not on Vacation

me and dad Every time I think things are going back to “normal,” something else happens.  I am with the family in NYC–not on a vacation–but here because my dad passed away last Tuesday (I cannot believe it has been a week already). We packed up the boys and took the long drive from SC to NY last week and have been here ever since.

I am not prepared to talk about grief today, as I don’t think anything has really set-in yet.  I’ve been keeping extremely busy, which keeps my mind from wandering off or pondering the situation.  The picture I posted here in this blog post is of me and my dad in 2009 at  my brother’s wedding.

I haven’t been up to NYC since 2011, when unfortunately I was here to visit my dad in the hospital and to attend another funeral.  I wish that I can make it up here more often, without it being for these kinds of purposes.  For now, I am trying to squeeze everyday I can out of Hubby and stay as long as possible.

For those of you who don’t know, Hubby is a gov’t employee and we are being affected by the shutdown.  He, however, has to go to work and still not get paid.  I am sure they will pay him eventually, but until them things are very uncertain in the Aspie household.  So not what we needed right now!

Anyway, the trip up here was not an easy one dragging the four boys on the road.  And, YES, I became the screaming lunatic yelling for everyone to get in the van before we made it to NY!  I am going to spend the next couple of days taking the boys to see “New York Stuff” and try to keep you posted.

  2. I am so so sorry for your loss and I hope the shut down is lifted so your husband (and many others) can get paid again very soon.
