Obsessed Again: This time I Almost Tossed my Computer out the Window!

angry-woman-and-laptop Me and My Brilliant Ideas

We’ve established that lack of sleep makes me do stupid things. It super-charges my brain, gives me loads of ideas, but I fail to think them through before plunging right in During my week long insomnia-fest I tried to redesign my blog. This is something I have been meaning to do for a while, but never quite get around to. I guess my lack of sleep, or extra time that the lack of sleep afford me, gave me the idea to get started.

What I intended to do, well what I still intend to do, is organize my mess of a blog into nice neat categories. That way when I get a visitor who would like to read about a particular autism subject, they can just click on a category menu to find what they are looking for. I also wanted to create a dedicated Author’s Page, which I need for professional reasons, but didn’t want everyone to have to navigate through it in order to hop onto the blog. Lastly, I wanted a new look because I get board easily! Sounds easy, right?

Do you know what the problem is with starting new projects? I can’t stop!

Massive Website Crashes

I know firsthand how irritating it is when a website you like is down. You end up asking “is this website down or is it just me?” but I never thought I would have to tackle this issue with my own site. It’s easy enough when it’s someone elses because you can just sit and wait for it to be fixed so it can’t be so hard to sort out when it happens to you, right? Well, now that I think about it (after my first full night’s sleep in a week), it doesn’t sound easy at all. Maybe that is because I just spent the past three days with my website crashing every ten minutes, and 8 1/2 hours (literally, no joke) on the phone with Go Daddy support to “fix” the issues.

If you saw a similar post to this earlier in the week, you may realize that it is now GONE. I didn’t do that! When I finally was able to get the site up and running again after one of the crashes, all the work I had done-adding pictures, creating the authors page, new blog posts, all things “new”-were gone, vanished.

When all was said and done, I transferred my domain name to a different registrar, purchased an additional domain name (you can now also get to my site, and land on the author’s (homepage) by going to www.jeanniedaviderivera.com), and migrated the entire blog to a WordPress managed hosting plan. Then-I had to wait.

Waiting is not what I do best! Although I am really happy with the website now. WordPress works so well for me and there were loads of helpful websites and videos that I learned from throughout this whole process. I didn’t know much about WordPress before going through this but I feel like an expert now! I found a great video on YouTube (similar to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YzokIJH_pX8) and it helped me out a lot when it came to installing GoDaddy onto WordPress. If you’re going through the same situation as me, have a look on YouTube!

New Look, Same Me

Several hours later (by midnight last night) my site was back up and running. I am writing this post from the “new blog” crossing my fingers that I’ve worked out the issues. I sent out a post about the Kindle Sale that will be going on all week, but as of last night it did not automatically blast to my Facebook or Twitter like it should without me having to manually log in. I think I fixed it??

I created a lovely new author’s page, which is no where near finished, and I have not been able to organize a thing-yet. Although I have a new domain name, the old one www.aspiewriter.com remains in place, and is still the main way to get to my blog. I will be working on this madness, probably for the next few weeks until something else grabs my attention.

Crap! That reminds, I have school work to finish.

I have been so consumed with my spur-of-the-moment turned take-over-my-life monster project, that I am running behind! Why does this keep happening to me?
