Summer Vacation is OVER!!!

20140818_075506Anyone miss me? I have been MIA all summer I realize, my apologizes. Summer break is extremely stressful on me, and the boys. The Tot hates being home for the summer; he was bored, no routine, whiney, and very very melty. The Little Man, who just started the FIFTH GRADE, I cannot believe how fast time goes, loves school too,; he is my very social Aspie! Who says Aspies cannot, or do not want to be social? Whoever they are have never met my Matt! Aspie Teen is not happy that summer vacation is over because it is time for him to get back to his studies; he is still plotting along in his K-12 virtual High School. I am not crazy about the program, in fact, it gets me quite crazy-but he is happy with it for the time being so I am going to leave well enough alone.

Fifth grade began last Monday, but the Tot’s 3K did not begin until yesterday. Last week was really rough! Yesterday afternoon, the Tot came running in the door after school so excited to tell me that the bus brought him home! He LOVES that school bus! First day of school-BIG SUCCESS!

Meanwhile, I am back to my obsession with fixing this house up. To our absolute horror, we had a flood a few weeks ago; a drain backed up and flooded the whole kitchen. All I can say is thank God for homeowners insurance, which is now allowing me to fix the mess. I think unless you or someone very close to you experiences something like this, you doubt that it will ever happen to you. Well, I am here to tell you that it is a possibility, so make sure that you are insured. There would be nothing worse than having a flood, which could cause thousands to fix, and not having any insurance to cover it. It is easy to find an insurance quote, so there really is no excuse not to get yourself covered. I, of course, am taking the opportunity to upgrade the kitchen as much as possible for as little money as possible, which means-lots of work for Hubby and Me! (Because I just don’t have enough work to do!)

20140824_194051Trying to Cut Out Old Counters

We spent the weekend shopping for kitchen stuff-Sunday and Monday (Hubby took off work) trying to take out an old countertop, which was built into the cabinets (something we learned after we began tearing it apart.) and installing a new one, which is ALMOST complete. It took WAY too long to cut out a whole for a new sink, partly because we were clueless, and partly because as our luck would have it Hubby broke his jigsaw halfway through. Last night we finally finished the hole cutting, and the sink is set into the countertop. Unfortunately, it is still not hooked up because we are doing the plumbing ourselves (sort of) via my brother, aka Skype a Plumber!

We have had my brother, who lives in NY (we are in SC) on Skype giving us step by step instructions. Go buy this or that, turn that value, cut that line, disconnect that pipe-LOL I told him he should start a Skype a Plumber business, watch from a laptop or phone while all us DIYer’s mess up their plumbing work! I love my brother dearly, but communicating over Skype isn’t ideal, especially when it concerns the plumbing. I’m grateful for his expertise, but I can’t help but feel that looking for professional plumbing services may have been the better option in this circumstance, just as they will be able to see first-hand what needs doing etc. But as we’ve started, I guess we should carry on like we’ve been doing. I am partly serious about that Skype a Plumber business though. It would at least be comical work. I wonder if you could give LeakSmart installation tips via that method. In any case, my adventures in home repair will continue…I intent on finishing the sink this evening-hopefully-the countertop too. Then I am moving on to tiling my backsplash while I wait for the custom counter order for my pass through to be delivered. At some point, I really will finish the floors, and trim that we started in FEBUARY!

20140826_083043The start of a beautiful new countertop and sink! Yay!

There is so much more going on here in the Aspie household…some crazy, OK lots of craziness, but I will update you little by little as to not sit here all day writing you the story of our summer. Now, I must get back to work (and another cup of coffee) before the baby wakes. I am working on my novel project, (rewriting the whole thing actually on a deadline of May 2015) that is if I can keep my butt in this seat! And yikes! I had almost forgot, new history course starting today! Then I wonder why I feel like a crazy woman; Could it be because I am?
