Kids are Awesome for your Self-Esteem

deadly farts

If you clicked looking for all the ways that my kids (or yours) can make you feel great about yourself, you are in the wrong place! Yesterday I took little man for a much-awaited hair cut.  He has this awesome tuft of thick curly hair, which makes it difficult to really find a stylist that can work with it. I don’t know why this is true, but to seems that with the boys most just want to take a buzzer to their heads and do the high and tight thing. That works real well for Aspie Teen, but Little Man loves his curls. What in the world does this have to do with my self-esteem, or deadly farts as in the post picture for that matter?  I’ll tell you.

My kids are self-esteem suckers—for real, I’m serious.  Let’s start with when Little Man asked me if I would ever get my “regular” belly back because this one is soooo giggly?  Followed closely (a few weeks later) with, “Mom, how come your thighs are sooooo fat?  You really should keep them covered!”  Arghhh!!!  I wonder why my belly is giggly and my thighs are fat—rotten kids!  LOL

To make matters worse, I was shopping with the Teen a few months ago and we split up. When I came out of one of the aisles he says, “Mom, I knew that was you coming out of the aisle, I recognized your wiggly arm!”

Now in my defense I have had four children, and my youngest is 16 months today. Could I use to drop some pounds?  Sure, but come on boys cut Mommy some slack!

Back to the hair salon yesterday—Little Man is a talker, wiggler, jumper, can’t sit stiller, but he is a funny funny guy. He was sitting in the chair chatting up a storm with the stylist, and proceeded to have a little sparring session with him when the cut was through, but not before mortifying Mom—again.  Apparently, out of no-where, he blurts out…

“When my Mom is pregnant, she has really bad gas and she yells—A LOT!”

Eyes blink; jaw drops; I’m speechless.  Hair stylists busts out laughing. “Did he just say that when I am pregnant I have bad gas and yell a lot?”

Yes—yes he did. Followed by, “Well Mom, it’s true. You could kills us with your farts while your pregnant!”

I was considering getting my hair cut today—maybe I will go somewhere else.

  1. Kids say the darnest things lol. My son once asked me at the mall about a man with long hair “Why does he have hair like a girl?” But luckily his partner laughed and so did he and I was a little embarrassed but got over it when they took it well.
