Traveling with the Boys: Villa Borghese

First stop when we entered the beautiful park

Villa Borghese

(Villa Borghese) was for Panini. For Matt, that meant a hot dog sliced longways on a hard panini-like bread. So far, still not thrilled with his food in Rome, but adding a couple of Snickers bars and he was good to go.

We rented a bicycle cart to explore the park for an hour, which was loads of fun, but way harder than it looked to petal. I have an awful back and pedaling up and down the hills did not help the aches. Otherwise, Matt and I had a great time driving it around, and Adam was able to go for a solitary walk around the park as he wanted—sitting on benches to read mostly.

When our ride was through, we headed over to the Borghese Gallery which was reserved for 5pm. I know this was not the most exciting of destinations for the boys, but the gallery was one of my favorites. I was looking forward to standing before the Bernini sculptures I’d only wrote about for undergrad. And, the gallery was having a whole Bernini exhibit! I was excited. The boys—meh. Although, Adam spent the whole time walking around and taking photos of all the artworks.
