Jeannie grew up with autism, but no one around her knew it. Twirling Naked in the Streets will take you on a journey into the mind of a child on the autism spectrum; a child who grows into an adolescent, an adult, and becomes a wife, mother, student, and writer with autism.
This is a gripping memoir of a quirky, weird, but gifted child who grows up never quite finding her niche. It took 38 years to discover that all the issues, problems, and weirdness she experienced were because she had Asperger’s Syndrome (AS), a form of high-functioning autism.
The tale begins at age three and takes us all the way through her diagnosis. Along the way she explains autism in a way that will have fellow “Aspies” crying tears of joy at being understood, and “neuro-typical” people really starting to grasp the challenges that autistic people face every moment of every day.
I invite you to take this journey with me and get an inside look at what life on the autism spectrum looks and feels like from the eyes of a child, and the heart of an autistic woman. Click on the image to be taken to Amazon.com

Hi Jeannie! I too have read your amazing book for a graduate school assignment. It was so intriguing that I read it cover to cover in just two days! I also have a young daughter with autism, so your book resonated with me on an even deeper level. I really appreciate how articulate your descriptions were and how you are really able to capture the reader’s attention and connection. This book is not only a helpful tool for those on the spectrum but easily helps neurotypicals understand what living with autism can be like sometimes! Again, thank you for sharing your inspirational story!
Hell, Jeannie, I just read your book for an assignment I had. I really enjoyed reading your story, about your journey. I plan on working with people on the spectrum in the near future–your minds work in a way that I wish mine did. Great story.
I’ve just read your book and I relate to a lot that’s in it. I got my formal Aspie diagnosis in October, after having been to my GP to ask for a referral as I suspected that I was Aspie. I am 45 & live in the UK. I am proud to be Aspie: Aspies are Awesome! My best and most loyal friends are Aspies.

Thank you so much for reading; I am glad you could relate. It is so important (in my opinion) for us to feel connected and not alone even if it is only through someone else’s words.
I just started listening to your book on audible after being diagnosed at 22. I’m curious as to if you have any advise about how you have managed to maintain romantic relationships over the years. I am constantly broken up with for being “too much” or “too different” and I am unsure what changes I should make to correct these issues. Very good read so far I’m highly enjoying it.
THE. BEST. BOOK. EVER! My daughter wasn’t diagnosed until age 13 (although we had suspected she was on the spectrum when she was two). I’m a special educator, but was always told to go against my instincts: “no she can’t have autism because she doesn’t have {insert classic boy autism symptom here}. I grew up in NY (and appreciate the local references!), and ohmygod, were we parented by the same mother? My sister has said that she’s happy my daughter isn’t being raised by our mother.
I’m posting on my blog and spamming the world that they have to read your book.
Thanks so much!
