I am soooo NOT a poet!

Well folks I selected a poetry writing workshop this semester.  What was I thinking? Metaphoric language, symbolism, a total lack of logical grammar—I am sinking here…fast!

In addition to struggling through the poetry reading, I absolutely suck at writing poems as well.  But, I figured that if I have to suffer through this, then I am taking you all along with me! (Talk about  misery loving company right?)

Both of last week’s poems that I composed where about my life with Asperger’s. Don’t worry they are very short… the first is only a few lines and the second a Haiku.  I think I will try more Haiku since I can figure out a quick logical structure.  First line: 5 syllables; Second Line:7; and Third line:5—I think I may be able to pull those off???

So here is my contribution to the poetry world for today: God help us! Hats off to all the poets out there, I thought writing poetry was much easier than it is.

No Longer Alone–a poem

The world whizzes by, strange people
strange sounds, overwhelming stimuli
You search the mirror,it is clouded
No one stares back–no one is like you
You have no reflection
You open your mouth to speak–no sound
NO voice to be heard
Wondering through a crowded universe–desolate
scared, wanting, waiting, praying
Then you make a discovery, illuminating your mind
flooded with understanding, tears, smiles
No longer alone.

Poem No. 2 – A Haiku

They missed it, missed me
They ignored my oddities
Eyes shut tight don’t see

  1. I like them! They have imagery, great word usage, emotion, I connected to them. Though I am an Aspie so I suppose I would relate to those words. 🙂
